The purpose of poetry

The purpose of poetry carries many definitions depending on whom your speaking to at the moment. For me poetry's purpose is to see the world in its many different states and take from it, inspiration, leading to beautiful poetry.

Poetry's purpose

When...

heart and mind
see words inner sanctum-

On oceans one's have set sail
never leaving uncharted shores-

In mind one's have climbed
the tallest of earths' mountains-

Battled and lived never wielding death's sword-

When...

One's felt the thrill of night's ethereal slumber-

Had thirst quenched
beyond passion's door,

and sought to solve the
problems of mankind and succeeded-

While rejoicing, because hate is no more-

Then you've found the key to poetry's purpose,
but yet, there's still more to feel and explore.

I write because I love it and as the years have passed, I've found my knowledge and skills haven't grown by leaps and bounds.

Poetry is where I spend most of time.
