Oral contraceptives have played an important role in allowing women to take their well deserved place in today's modern society.

Oral contraceptives, a pivotal impact on society

One of the greatest discoveries of the previous century was that of hormonal contraceptives. Hormonal contraceptives, which became widely available in the United States at the same time as the Women's Liberation Movement became a force to be reckoned with, served a vital and pivotal role in freeing women from the roles enforced upon them by society. Just as technology and science changed the way society worked, oral contraceptives let women change the way society works as well as the way their own body works.

The importance of control over biology in our modern era

Getting an education, a job, managing a career and generally having a greater overall impact on society with greater and more significant contributions to society all became far more readily attainable once women could decide when and with whom they would have their children or even, when they would have their period (if at all). As technology, education and intelligence have gained more prominence in our society, the freedom of women to choose to place more efforts into these venues has doubled the amount of brain power being routed to science and technology.

Spreading the light

Thanks to the discovery of hormonal contraceptives, women can now take a more active control over their life and bodies. This has certainly led to many important social changes in society and has advanced hand in hand with gender equality. Unfortunately, there are still societies where the light has not yet dawned and these problems still exist. Nonetheless, it is likely that as technology, science and enlightenment continue to spread, gender equality will become the absolute norm throughout the world.
