They say that men are from Mars and Women are from Venus. Add to this the effects of alcohol and mistakes will soon be made. I dedicate this poem to my dear friend Jayne.

The Wrong Path........A Humorous Relationship Poem

Humorous
What a wonderful day
Perfect in every way
We travelled to Cheltenham races
Saw the horses put through their paces
We had so much fun
Especially when I won
All that lovely money
He laughed and thought it funny
'Beginners luck that's what you've got'
I replied 'you've lost the lot'
'Better come to me for lessons
Before your next few betting sessions'.

A gorgeous day, a picnic to share
The sun shone brightly, lots of fresh air
Drinks poured in the beer tent
Time to go home but no taxi to rent
My feet already feeling tender
He thought how can I not offend her
He suggested pubs to stop on the way
Break up the journey, a pleasant way to end the day.

But returning to our walk
Engrossed in drunken talk
He the leader, me following on
He found his bearings to have gone
Unaware of a different approach
The Cider his logic had poached.

I complained my feet were burning
He oblivious took the wrong turning
He thought things would turn out fine
Until his reference ,the garage, appeared a second time
Eventually under duress he spoke the words he must confess
'I've lost my bearings', his pride too
Anger from my lips just flew.

Words tumbled hot like my feet
Expressions a lady shouldn't repeat
In the heat of the moment with feet so sore
My rage exploded from my very core.
He was shocked at all I said
Half expecting a rotating head
'The Exorcist ' had nothing on me
A wave of red was all I could see.

I asked directions from a passer by
By now too angry to look him in the eye
I afraid in the stony silence I just might cry
He afraid my temper may once again fly.
We eventually caught the train
My feet now in agonising pain
He feeling wretched for his mistake
Me thinking what a stupid error to make.

Home alone with a hot cup of tea
He's phoned to apologise repeatedly
I won't stay mad for long , that just isn't me
The trip home best forgotten we both now agree.
One day I'm sure we'll think about this and laugh
But not right now, with my swollen calf
Friends forgive and over a bottle we'll laugh
About how he led me down the wrong path.
