These two articles, and the photos contained therein, are me speaking my heart about the place I grew up.

"Oh for the simpler times" by Jerry E Smith, 11/16/14

Oh for the simpler times, when joys could be found in such simple things,
When worries did not interfere; Who CARES what people think? Now,
Our joys are stifled, hampered by social mores, when just walking
Outside, with our feet without shoes brings comments from
Neighbors: You shouldn't be outdoors! Learn to set your
Spirit free, unhindered by opinions and stares.
You only live once, cast off your restraints,
Throw away your cares! Enjoy your life,
While you still can!
Jerry E Smith, 11/16/14

"Evening on a South Georgia River" by Jerry E Smith, 5/24/15

The air is still, yet alive with the sound of the cicadas as the setting sun
Kisses the tree tops. Slowly, I drift down the river of my youth,
Surrounded by the green aura, the white sand and water the
Color of iced tea. An occasional Pond Scoggin or Tick bird
Sail overhead, or wade out for a drink, as the hoot owls
Begin calling. Soon the Whippoorwills’ calls will join
The chorus. “Evening on a South Georgia River”
Is a time of Peace and Enchantment.
I highly recommend it.

It was beautiful. Alas, it is no longer quite so idyllic.

Resonates across borders, thanks Jongleur.

I miss the simplicity that was hallmark of life in my youth. Ours was an open door with people welcome anytime. Now it is only by appointment as all are "very busy". Family is now only couple and children - earlier it was society.

Material accouterments has divided us into haves and have-nots.

I have never taken life too seriously with minimum wants meeting all my needs - why deprive others by stockpiling those I do not need - siva

My former neighborhood in La Boca Panama has changed a lot since my family moved from there in 1978.

Times change, and so does the world, but in so many respects, the more they change, the more they stay the same, forgive the cliche
