Three Tips For Writing Articles Online

Writing articles online can be tricky. Learn how to get and hold the readers' attention quickly so they will read to the end of your article and not just click onto something else.

Be Brief

Online readers tend to be in a hurry. They skim the headlines and may click past articles which don't interest them. If they do click on an article, they'll do more skimming of subheadings and the first sentences of the first paragraphs. Many readers won't go any further than this.
This can be frustrating to writers who work hard on their articles only to see few people read them and even fewer stick with them to the end. But there are ways that online writers can make their work more relevant to readers.
Step one is to be brief. Use short words, sentences and paragraphs. Avoid long blocks of copy. Bold key words and phrases. Try to keep your articles between 300 and 400 words.
Remember, just one click of the mouse will send readers elsewhere. The Internet is vast. There are too many other places for readers to go if you don't get and keep their attention quickly.
Writing on the Internet is different than writing for newspapers, magazines or books. In those cases, readers might be more patient and willing to stick it out longer since they've already paid for the publication.

Use Keywords and Good SEO

Keywords are important for writing online. Readers search online for information and type in certain keywords. If your article doesn't have them, it may sink to the bottom of Google and other search engines where few, if any people, will see it. Search engine optimization or SEO means using the right keywords so that your article lists high in Google rankings.
However, avoid keyword stuffing - just putting in random keywords which don't make sense but will draw the attention of search engines. Look for other keywords to use to avoid repetition. For example, I can write online content or online writing in addition to online articles.
Type in some keywords for your content into Google and see what comes up. Or try other search engines.
Here are some more tips on using SEO:

Use Photos, Videos and Links

People who read on the Web like visuals. Pictures and videos can help draw readers into your article and keep their attention once they're reading it. That old saying about a picture being worth 1,000 words is even more true on the Internet.
Look for other articles you can link to. These can be your own articles on Wikinut or from other sites.
Remember to be brief, use strong keywords and visuals. If you do this, readers might just stick with you right to the end.

Legend, what comments do is draw more readers to your pages. In fact, people who commented may go back to the same article to see if anyone responded to their comments. This will increase the article's SEO and drive even more readers to the article. So my advice is: respond to the comments you get on your articles and comment on other people's articles. Everyone's SEO should increase.
