Time Behind the Wall

This poem is about a young man’s life in the penitentiary.

Behind Bars

Greed and stupidity are the reasons why I am here
The scene of the crime, I should have never been there.
The C.O. continue the harassment,
No visits, my family cannot deal with the embarrassment.
I know mom is walking around in shame
Take a good look at me; I am the reason to blame.
Darkness filled the cell; I will love to see the light
It is hard for me to sleep at night.
Same faces plotting to kill me while I am dreaming
Wake up sweating and screaming.
I am a survivor, God knows
Life behind these walls is so cold.
No choice but to be heartless
Now I realize freedom is priceless.
