Time Spent...Bits and Pieces of Maine

Time moves slowly in Maine. The raw beauty of mid-coast Maine is a reminder of it's rich and rustic history.

Bending Blue

Beneath two tall birch trees,
Empty Adirondack chairs wait...
Come, let's sit for a spell.
Kick off your shoes- feel the grass?
Look up;
Clouds gently nod to us as they pass...
Breathe deep,
Taste that brine of the ocean blue.
Ah...a soft sea breeze;
Where the sky bends
Waves are whispering to the shore.

Hendricks Head Lighthouse

Hear the measure of time?
It is the beat of waves
Crashing against rock...
Now a cold ocean breeze
Chills the afternoon...
Sea glass and empty crustacean shells,
Polished by the sea-
Harbingers of time
Cast upon lonely sands...
At the edge,
Over-looking the harbor,
Hendricks Head Lighthouse stands.

Springtime Haiku

Throughout the Maine woodlands the wildflower know as the lady slipper, a beautiful forest orchid, blooms in late springtime.

Lady slippers dance,
Springtime imp in woods' soft moss.
Wild orchids in bloom.

Ah, lady slippers! - The first flowers I fell in love with as a kid when I went to the woods. We don't have them in California, and I miss them. Your poem and photos bring back such fond memories, Delicia. Thank you.

It is wonderful to be able to view Maine through your lovely verses and photos. There are aspects of it that recall the greenery of England and such similarities.

Indeed it does:0)- England reminded me of home- and is my second home as my two oldest children's school years where spent there... and my son his younger school years...we as a young family grew up in lovely England...!
