So many times I reject an article over and over again and the writer keeps sending it back without making the needed improvements. In some cases the article is so bad the writer should just abandon it and do something else. If you are having problems getting your Wikinut article accepted you need to read this.

Why was my Wikinut Article Rejected?

There are many reasons why a Wikinut article is rejected. These range from simple things such as titles being all in capital letters, to more serious things such as plagiarism. Here is a list of the most common reasons why a Wikinut article is rejected by the moderation team.

Please note that when an article is rejected you will get a note from the moderator saying why it was rejected - read your messages!

Some Common On-Going Problems I Have Encountered

Lately I am seeing a lot of people copying things from other websites. Mostly news articles and medical studies. If copied word for word this is plagiarism and grounds for instant rejection and a possible ban. If some words are changed around with no personal insight offered from you (the writer) this is called spinning, and although unethical, it is not illegal however you should link to your source.

I am really tired of submissions that are medical or news stories where the source is mentioned but not linked to. For example the article might read "Studies by the University of Alberta indicate that....." or "Dr. Nelson stated that....". In either case you should link to the source of the information you are quoting.

Another ongoing problem is bad grammar and bad punctuation. If English is not your first language, we understand, but if you are copying, running things through translators, and submitting them, the result is something that is painfully hard to read. These articles should be rejected because they really devalue the site as a whole and we lose readers and advertisers as a result.

In any case if you are a writer here - rather than copying what others have already done, why not just write your own article? Write about things you know, where you live, or similar such things!

Adding Videos and Pictures

Some of you have tried to add youtube videos. These should be embedded correctly, do not just link to the video, actually put it in your article. When you link to the video it sends your readers away from your article.

Depending on the nature of this I might reject an article or not. Read this Wikinut guide on embedding a video.

If you are adding pictures make sure they are copyright free and legal to use on the creative commons. I cannot always tell if an image is copyright protected but if I see one that is I will reject the article. If you are found (by the owner of a picture) to be using their copyright owned image without their permission you could be sued. it is not Wikinut's responsibility to ensure you use legal pictures, it is your responsibility. Read More About Copyright Pictures.

Good morning, Mark. Thank you for this article and the additional links to other helpful articles you have written. Each of us, as contributors to the site, need to be mindful of Wikinut's criteria and minimize rejection of an article. In the long run, taking the time to improve our articles gives more credibility to Wikinut and an improved site benefits all of us. ~Marilyn

Yeah, what Marilyn said. Seriously, I do agree with what Marilyn said. The better our articles, the more credibility Wikinut gains.

It is not just medical articles that are being plagiarised. I have seen a person submit multiple articles, article 1 was published elsewhere by a writer called Mike, when the person submitting the article has a non-English name. Article 2 is published elsewhere by a writer called Mary, and the third submission is by James - this behaviour is highly suspicious and will earn a rejection every time.

Funny how all the people commenting are people who very often get stars and rarely if ever have articles rejected. I hope MGB actually reaches Wikinuts who need it, rather than just preaching to the choir... Everything said here is just and true (and annoying when it gets through). But some people never learn, don't want to learn, just want to make money as fast as possible without bettering themselves or their craft. And it's frustrating to many on all sorts of levels -- obviously!!
MGB -- thanks for taking the time to write an article setting them straight -- I hope people constantly getting rejected will take heed of your plain and simple instructions.

Good morning Phyl,
What you say is true, Phyl. I think that the main reason the same people comment articles such as Mark's is because we are the ones following Mark and get notifications when he publishes something new.

Phyl yes you are right, sometimes the people that need the information the most are not the ones who are reading it.

Well said Mark..if writers don't make the effort to put the time and work into creating a publishable post, then rejection is the result of that.
The moderators should not have to repeatedly waste time
on writers who are not committed to producing articles which are acceptable to the standard of the site.

I really wonder
..people think of making money on any sites here ...
The last site owes me 50 dollars..
but can't give it....
Here in two plus years I have perhaps just earned 17 pounds ...
they call money ...
It is only ego satisfaction
..that all enjoy more than does by earning few/any cents...
But then what is Wiki doing about those ..
who comment sheer trash and nonsense... Also are free to roam about nude unchallenged ...
What is Sam doing about it ???
Deleting is a nuisance ..The damage is already done....
Take care Mark
you have done well

Thanks Mark, a much needed reminder for everyone. It is only fair to readers and the site to write quality posts than those that benefit none including the writer himself/herself. My reward lies in the comments I receive and also in the pleasure I get by reading others and adding my views and encouragement - siva

I think it would be more helpful and time-saving if moderators point out directly inconsistencies or faults contained in submitted in write-ups.
