Towards Perfect Sync between Mind and Body

Our lives are full of choices and compromises and they include how we need to be aware of the needs of the mind, body and to live within the society we are part of. Time we moved as one towards self-realization to actualize our full potential and to find deeper meaning for our existence.

Mind, Body and Society

Is life a tussle between mind and body? Our mind is influenced by the inner voice, promptings of the soul, while body is attuned to our five senses for preservation and direction. At every stage of our life we can feel the conflicts between the mind and the body. We have to strike a compromise for a sense of purpose; otherwise we drift along a path of endless conflicts. Frustration builds when our priorities are lopsided not doing justice to both the mind and body. Life takes difficult turns then like when we have hormone fluctuations affecting our thinking and mental balance. We are assailed by conflicting demands from our mind, body and society and that affects our mental equilibrium. It is indeed a challenge to face the storms in life, but aren't they the norm for not only us? Our school education should highlight the realities of life so that children can face them with the right attitude and through them we build a better and a more balanced society.

Mind

Our mind is always active, giving us directions and also reflects on the decisions and actions we take. The myriad choices we have not only provide us the opportunities but also make us rue the lost chances and the bad choices we make. It is never easy to know what suits us as the variables are not easy to analyse to come to a logical conclusion. It is more often a case of guess work with luck playing its part; for example who we trust at all levels starting with our choice of spouse to friends, business partners. They too have their individual choices to make according to varying circumstances and demands. So we are kept on our toes all the time with emotions on a roller coaster ride. Change is the only constant and it is coming at a faster pace to disorient even those who are ready to embrace it; then what about those who are caught in a whirlwind not of their choice!

Body

Our body competes with our mind in the way how it behaves, changes, and makes its demands on our time and money. All the wealth in the world is of no use if we do not have health to lead a normal life. We have parents to guide us along during childhood and the tumultuous teenage years, but soon it is our world with endless choices and demands staring at us. We try to make hay while the sun shines but that also comes at a price. I have seen few getting carried away to make wealth at all costs and then they find they have nothing else to fall back upon. It is like our exploiting the finite resources of the planet to increase our paper wealth! At the end of the day, we will have a desolate planet to content with and people behaving more like robots with zilch human feelings.

Family and Society

One needs luck to have a happy and contented family and it requires the needed sacrifices too; no pains, no gains – boils down to making wise choices to reach our goal. We cannot have our way all the time – a sure recipe for disaster! Likewise, society matters as we are part of it. Sometimes we just have to grin and bear it as it is made up of people with different personalities and mental disposition. We have to find common space with a spirit to agree to disagree. We are part of a wider society of nations too with different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. Then we have small countries and the big ones fighting for space with the latter trying to cut the former to size! It all boils down to endless compromises with weapons coming handy when reason and logic fail! We become trigger happy easily to settle differences though today’s friends are often tomorrow’s foes!

Towards Balance

The main issue is we have to live within a society with its expectations which may not rhyme with our yearnings, so it becomes a daily compromise between the mind, body and society pulling in different directions. Despite all the knowledge we have accumulated and lessons from history we cannot shake off our basic trait of intolerance and bigotry that threaten to put paid to all our scientific and technological progress. Without the wisdom to coexist, find balance at every level, the fissures within us will make our lives miserable and act up like a migraine to pin us down.

Great minds have thought about our lifestyle and made wise observations to guide us along. Our mind can lead us with the right frame of thought to strike a compromise provided we listen to it. A quote from Einstein is relevant “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.” We have to reflect all the time to find common ground as the choices are many and also the cultural paths we have come thus far. We should never forget that we will face more challenges with the margin of error getting reduced all the time. The meaning of make or break should never be forgotten. It is time human species as a whole moved towards the goal of self-realization though it may sound altruistic, but we are left with little choice. Let us dig for deeper wisdom of our souls not only to stay the course but also to find meaning and purpose to our existence at a higher plane.

Siva, excellent article. It's so true that we have to arrive at some type of balance. If we are out of balance it will cause havoc in our life. I do know that if we have everything we yearn for except our health we actually have nothing. We all have to understand that we live in a time when there is great turmoil. It is a reality that we must count on our own inner strength to stay strong.

Thanks Nancy - humans have always faced turmoil though mostly of our own doing. At every level we become intolerant - words once out of our tongue cannot be put back and some are misinterpreted too! Over and above our beliefs or even lack of them, we have to reach out to our soul to guide us, to give us the right perspective. That will be a good beginning for coexistence. Otherwise, we will be faced with what Einstein said - "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.". Mindless paper wealth creation will ruin our planet, make it inhospitable - siva

If you understand the Myers-Briggs analysis of the four dimensions of human personality (MBTI, look it up), you will find that "human feelings" vary greatly among individuals. It's not that people low on the "human feelings" dimension have no feelings at all, it just means that they lead their life more by the head than the heart.

It is a different connection between the mind and the body, which tends to do better for both when logical thinking rather than desperate emotion rules behavior during crises.

Thank you LeRain. I checked it out. A good analysis to understand human behavior.

Individually and collectively we have to grow our heart and the rational functions to develop a passion for compassion. The purposeless of pursuing wealth as an end by itself should be driven home as it proves self-defeating - siva

'Self-realization' is a term that has yet to be defined in the modern American society. The 'self' is still seen by many as the corporeal being with all the desires. I have found it tiresome, trying to explain it to the intellectuals of today. And yet, what else can we do?
Thank you for trying also, Siva.

Thank you for your thoughts and input, r. nuñez. One needs to actualize our potential through becoming aware of the self. Material world can very well coexist with our inner yearnings, but all in balance with a sense of proportion. Sadly, our leaders, be they be of any hue - political or religious - think they have to flex their muscles at the cost of logic and reasoning, and that has been our bane right through. Violence begets further violence - it proves multi-headed hydra - siva

"Towards Perfect Sync between Mind and Body"

Your title implies a lot to me too siva.

If perfect sync was possible how could we ever leave it and now have to work towards it again.

Perhaps it is as you say, because we want our way all of the time. Perfect sync involves connection to others in oneness at the same time too through real love.

Yes Spirited. Unless we are at peace, we cannot connect with others to get the result. There is a trust deficit at every level right from between closest of family members. We get judged every time. Few are able to run amok because the majority at peril are taken advantage of. I recall your former PM Howard feeling let down after being misled about WMD.

Our efforts are work in progress all the time, but we should tackle "inconvenient truths" one by one though some may take the easy out - just grin and bear it. That should not be the case for human species. In the largest democracy, India, PM Modi is trying to attack the cirrhosis within the system and people realize if he cannot do it, others too cannot in the foreseeable future. Yes, we should connect to others in oneness through real love and mutual interests. Deception is for cowards and they get more easily exposed now through the likes of Assange - siva

Conflicts arise often - mind is willing, body is not especially in old age, and body is willing but the mind is not, sometimes when young! We should delve deep within to be inspired and then flippant actions and reactions can be avoided. Thanks Ptrikha - siva

Mind and body need to sync and you are doing great Siva in showing why this is essential. Perfection was a quest even for great souls like Einstein. Let us move on through life to "face more challenges with the margin of error" approaching zero. Very well put.

Thanks Snerfu, we have to break free from the present self-defeating ways with weapons doing the talking! Non detonated WW ll bombs are still being found requiring care in handling them, then what about those now sprinkled at will? Yes, we need to reflect on our decadent ways and take stock than be led by the blind - siva

Non detonated WWII bombs pose a big danger all right. If people are cruel enough to forgo human values, they will never belong to the human kind -- perhaps that is why there is so much demand for satan worship and other kinds of cults.

Not that I have anything against them, in one instance I just read Obama in his acceptance speech says Wait and Listen or words to that effect. A group of reverse engineering fanatics played it back and it sounds like WORSHIP SATAN.
If you read news like that your sync goes down the sink!

Keep writing Siva, it is posts like yours that keep things in the balance.

Thanks again Snerfu. No one feels at home reading news headlines anymore. I remember Princess Diana for her efforts to highlight the dangers from landmines. The more the darkness the brighter will be the light we shine.

I have a take democracy in America is taken to a level no President will be effective; the agenda based on which the majority elected them will be shot down by the vested interests that hold sway whoever is in power. I do not think even a Lincoln can make a difference now. In India too there are few waiting to trip Modi at the first opportunity after his (bachelor) honeymoon is over!

We should increase our common space than be inhibited by artificial differences that few use to divide us all the time. Once we delve deep into our inner self we will have the wisdom to forge ahead as one - siva

Thank you dear Nancy for such wholesome words that can only come from a generous heart. You are so encouraging to propel me to strive for more.

We have so much common ground but few try and even succeed in driving a wedge to dictate their agenda. Whatever I share is gleaned from my life's experiences and I believe that we are picked by the creative process, universe, galaxy, planet at some point in time and space and then asked to disembark till we board again at another time, maybe, another universe! Don't forget the speed at which the whole creative process is taking everything along - whew! After our time is over we just see our planet disappearing in milliseconds!

We have not much time to contribute as a co-creator leaving our own individual footprints on the sands of time. I feel blessed to share this platform with you all and get such welcome and encouragement. We are more inter-connected than we are aware of as the thread of creation runs through us and not only humanity - siva

All my posts and comments are straight out of my heart; sometimes a plaintive cry wondering why the heaven we are blessed to be part of is made inhospitable due to our excesses and selfish pursuits. When the good gives an inch, few grab a mile! Time we reflected on the paths we take to create self-awareness and realization in each of us. Once we become aware of a deeper meaning to our existence our actions led by uplifting thoughts will change our lifestyle. We will realize the oneness in our existence while recognizing the uniqueness in each of us. Namaste - siva

twill be your duty to see me washed in gold
so that I may emerge as whole
a grain of wheat polished my Lord by thee

Till then wait my penance

No problem Loverme, I like to encourage whoever I can though I give preference to those who do likewise. As I always maintain, everyone has unique talents and it is up to us to bring them out. We should never forget the oneness of creation but also the uniqueness in each one of us - we should stretch our boundaries to benefit creation and do so without borders as nature means us to do so - the air we breathe is free and shared and also everything else it showers on us.

I am blessed to share this space with you all and do hope you will find inspiration on reading mine to input them in your fertile mind and unique posts. Dear Siva, It's important to realise that our living is determined not so much by what life brings to us as by the attitude we bring to life; not so much by what happens to us as by the way our mind looks at what happens. Such a state of mind will benefit society.

Yes dear Subra - our attitude decides our altitude. Real fulfillment comes only through touching the lives of others positively, but we tend to get carried away taking wealth as the barometer of success.
