Here are two short poems from different points in my life. The first one, "Love," a loosely constructed sonnet, comes from the mid 1990s. The second one, ""If I am gone..." is a free verse from 2010. Both are simple yet self explanatory.

Love

For only a moment
In the eternal scheme of things
A bliss is felt within
That raises all the bad to good.

The world may do its worst
And strive to shear the soul of joy:
But let it try its worst
For love has come to give reprive.

Though it's hard to believe
That that could live in such abyss,
Know that there is a hope
To guide us all to truer bliss.

What is a tragedy
If not an exercise in meaning?

"If I am gone..."

If I am gone,

know I was here

And lived just like you in this life;

Know I took breaths and ate my fill

And chased my share of thankless bawds.

But most of all, know I loved this:

I loved this life and its strange ways,

But know that time had come to move

Where you won't see me in this form.
