What Putin said to the Duma in August of 2013 is pertinent to the current USA/Mexico border crisis. The leaders should take heed of an intelligent assessment.

What Putin Said

I do not like Vladimir Putin’s politics or his part in the current problem in Ukraine, but he did not get where he is by being stupid. Our leaders should pay attention to what he said last year. Then they should act appropriately in dealing with the crisis on the USA/Mexico border. The border should be secured. No one who enters the USA illegally should ever get a path to citizenship.

On August 04, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament). In this speech, he was talking about how minorities (immigrants) should view living in Russia.

"In Russia, live like Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, it should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, and live the life of Muslim's then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law.”

Leaders in the USA: Take his advice.

The same should hold in the United States.

Putin specifically mentioned Muslim minorities. I am not doing that. It matters not who you are or where you are from. If you want to come here, live here, work here, eat here, you need to speak English and respect the Constitution of the United States of America and the laws of this land.

You want to escape violence, subjugation, and poverty by coming to the USA. Do not try to change our culture, our laws, our very freedom we enjoy. Do not try to change it to what you left behind.

How can you leave your misery behind, if you bring it with you?

What made the USA a great country is immigrants

They learned English. They became acquainted with their neighbors. They learned the laws and the culture. They went to the schools everyone else attended. They ate in the same restaurants. They ate new foods brought from other countries and found them good. They ate hamburgers and French fries. They wore blue jeans and T-shirts and pony-tails and Mohawk haircuts. They played baseball and watched NASCAR races.

They did not isolate themselves; they immersed themselves, integrated themselves, into the people who already lived here. They made the United States great, because they “became” Americans—real Americans. The USA didn’t change; they changed.

The Lesson for Our Leaders

Immigrants have a responsibility to hold up their end of the deal. Don’t let this responsibility the immigrants have to this country get lost in the freedom they enjoy by being allowed to live in the United States. Our laws should embrace the philosophies of our country when it was founded; our laws should not change to follow a foreign heritage.

Excellent article and points well stated. I think Putin is the smartest politician on the planet today; Obama pales in comparison. Regarding minorities, he is absolutely right. Language is the first medium of assimilation. Unfortunately this word has been made pariah by the Liberals. Muslims especially have award time adjusting because instead of trying to conform to the law of the land, they do everything in their power to change the land to them! Well done JayeBird.

Wonderful article. Someone should send this to Obama, Harry Reed, Hillary, and Eric Holder. It wouldn't hurt if it was read out loud to both Houses of Congress.

My thanks to Joyce and to Annie69. Progressives have rewritten the dictionary on so many words, it is almost impossible to write where even half the people know what you are talking about. It's nice to be among people who do.
