A poem inspired by Allen Ginsberg's "America", the poem describes something of mine but never states what it is.

I wear it on a sleeveless vest
inside out, it seams.
I can't reach it on the top branch
overripe, it rots and falls.
I keep it in my secret place
where was that again?
I saw someone else's in a book
they had wonderful syntax.
I forgot to talk about mine at career day
the kids were confused.
They knew I didn't have a son in that class
they whispered that I was weird.
I left it at home, on the desk I swear
I'll bring it tomorrow, half credit.
I had global positioning satellites
but I drove right past it.
It fell in my shoe under my heel
ow that hurts.
I didn't take it out for a while
because I'm tough, right?
I shot it from the three point
missed the trash and made a layup.
I wonder which landfill it's in now?
There are probably some torn bills
and soy sauce packets getting along well
not too far away.
What's the half life on a thing like that anyway?
Can they be recycled?
Can't be bothered.
I'll just reduce and reuse.
Repent and refuse,
receive and reboot,
remit and rethink,
reprint and relief.

I like this paper one better.
I can copy a new one whenever I want.
And pass it out on the street.
Will you come to my show?
