Uphold Truth, Create Trust – Rest Will Follow

The world we all cherish is within our cusp yet proves a mirage, remains elusive, when we continue to tread the beaten path away from truth. Creating trust leading to genuine bonding within humanity will lead us to the right path towards truth that alone can unite us. Falsehood will lead us to doom and is a negation of nature and creation.

The Basics – Peace and Prosperity

There cannot be many shades of truth though our perceptions and interpretations vary – so we should try to inch towards the ultimate reality so that truth shines everywhere and unites us. That is the challenge thrown at us by creation – unite or perish! To achieve that goal trust should be built brick by brick, maintained and it should cut across all borders. The ills of our society can be traced to trust deficit and taking advantage of situations to suit self-interests, to steal a march over others. Over time our differences get overblown when compared to the many that should unite us to reach for a higher goal of coexistence. Obviously, we should reinvent ourselves to find meaning; otherwise it will be like an idle mind is a devil’s workshop! Though we have made great advances in science and technology they have hardly made a dent on truth and trust within society. The mighty are insatiable with endless appetite for wealth and power and they set the ball rolling towards an abyss that society is reeling from all the time. It is clear whatever progress we make sounds hollow when we cannot trust each other. It is a sad fact among countries, societies and at individual levels too. Competition is good but not at the cost of societal bonding – it should be a fine balance to meet and satiate all our needs for overall progress towards peace and prosperity that enrich the quality of life leading to less strife and stress.

United, Not Unilateral, Action

No one feels happy at being taken advantage of or for granted. Decisions should be the result of consultative process covering as wide a range of those involved and affected by the consequences and fall outs. It should not be few taking decisions and expecting others to just lap them up. It is not like a boss telling – you are all entitled to “my” opinion! When there is a maximum involvement there is united front to take the credit and, more important, the hits! It is as it should be; of course within the limits of practicality of needed actions and the time available. The intentions should be honorable as even a child can figure out if it is otherwise. When arrogance initiates action one is hoist with one’s own petard! That is as it should be – fair dinkum - karma in action. Some inalienable factors within the creative process can never change; it is sort of inbuilt release mechanism to knock sense when excesses take over. Brutality opens our eyes – where did we go wrong? Fairness and give and take pave the way towards success.

Everyone needs society though one can go overboard when short term success intoxicates us to see reason clearly. Finding common ground when others’ interests are involved is the best way to deal with any situation. Those who want to go it alone should also bear the consequences of their choices alone. It cannot be taking credit when the going proves good and expecting others to come to the rescue when the tide turns.

Cog in a Wheel

We are human with the frailties that go with them when emotions trump reason. Some feel even clear injustices against another will be supported by God little realizing there is only one Creator for whom all are equal. Creation is a balancing act and a blip in the overall process makes us history – it has never happened over billions of years, nay eternity! Our own lives do not depend on us and we are guided by a super force; we also come with a lease period on this blessed place. How can we then take things for granted that we are forever above the consequences of our actions? When we are out to destroy, we also will get the same treatment. Nothing is to be taken for granted and every step should be a considered one especially those that affect our overall wellness. Destruction comes easier with progress but creation is a slow and steady process; if we observe the ways of nature we can learn the basics – the myriad workings that enable us to see another day full of promise. How the balancing is done and the processes involved maybe still beyond us. We are after all a cog in the giant wheel! We have been blessed with the ability to reinvent ourselves even to leave behind near death experiences! So let us open our eyes and make our journey palatable and enjoyable for all till our time too is called, and I mean for humanity as a whole, so that others yet to come also can enjoy their place under the sun when we move on. A good karma for our species then – an epitaph that we did our part!

When will the Tide Turn?

We hit more than a brick wall when we endlessly repeat our follies. The tide should turn as it is a hallmark of the creative process, but it depends on us when we use the information overload to crystallize wisdom! There is clear writing on the wall but we dilly dally due to our ego and hubris, unable and unwilling to take others on board too. We prefer to fight individual battles, even create problems for others and end up paying with our lives. Covert actions to bring others down will only serve to dig our graves too. Within countries it is apparent as politics is endless with elections not giving a respite. No one is defeated except the common citizens whose writ hardly runs. It is the same scenario at world levels when the 99% thirst for peace but are dictated to by the 1%! The world that the new-born looks in wonder is besmirched by our actions and lives on only in fairy tales! The solutions are simple but need a mind-set change. Truth should be inalienable and not based on one way for some and another for the rest. Creating trust should guide our actions than throwing a smokescreen to cover our selfish goals. It should be made a mission possible. Setting an upright example will do the trick to unravel the basic truth, the bedrock to build a world that we all cherish – there are no two ways about it.

While decisions should be the result of consultative processes, the power of authority bestowed in hierarchical positions deliver decision-making to the person at the top. These are the bosses, managers, executives, government officials who seldom make decisions in a participative fashion. One such corrupted authority is the power of position of the Executive Office.

True LeRain - it happens in real life. As long as they have their hearts in the right place we should be alright. I feel the world as a whole should embrace the spirit of Truth and Trust than what is happening now - it becomes a dare, gauntlet, thrown at others to take up the challenge and it creates revulsion. We should not talk down on others at any level even within families. I have found I get respect but I should give first! siva

Siva, sometimes...too many times...the best way is the easiest way. I don't know why it can't be done, especially when, all over the world, we each have a pre-formulated blueprint to achieve peace and grace.

Poignant and pregnant with wisdom, thanks Lavenderblu. I am reminded of Einstein's words - Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The culture plays a part in driving home the message, in capturing the hears of the people but everyone understands when we uphold universal truths like live and let live. The mistake happens in making a bad situation worse through thoughtless actions. As for myself, I try to keep my life as simple as possible and I have found wealth more than our needs is a liability. For big powers the starting point is disarmament and non-proliferation of deadlier weapons by the day; then the trust divide will disappear - siva

Thanks Madan for your support and encouragement. Gandhi, King and recently Mandela showed us how to rise to the occasion and stand our ground without rancor. That they still touch our hearts is a testament to their leadership and uprightness. But they were still human - present times, even God the Almighty will come under the most critical scanner! No wonder He prefers to be in the background! siva

For those who have not been in battle, making decisions is like buying grocery items. They always have a choice. However, true leadership does not taunt or throw retorts, it leads the way. And that is more than rocket science I think.

Agreed Snerfu, my father was a doctor in the Second World War and he did not want to talk about his experiences at all. He told me it was just not worth recounting! The world is rightfully outraged by the beheading, but some argue thousands met the same fate all through history with the Japanese going overboard during WW ll. And what about the atomic bombings that killed mostly the innocents? I am reminded of the words of one of the last few veterans of WW l - what use sacrificing lives when a piece of paper is signed signalling peace - the dead and maimed are the victims as also their families. Mandela invited his jailer as he felt the system was wrong and he was just part of it, a cog in the wheel. I have lived within all religious pursuits and I can testify - 99% anywhere are just as loving and peaceful. The only way is to uphold the truth and build trust and what better way than disbanding brick by brick the war apparatus. The only ones affected will be those out to make a kill selling weapons to all and sundry for a profit. They should just switch jobs and invite better karma thereby. Leaders should acquire wisdom along the way, meet others eye to eye for a better world. It is not through painting few as evil all the time - take a hard look in the mirror to get a better perspective - siva

We can choose to do those or allow ego and might to divide us like it is happening now. Time to do what is right and that comes with our inner knowing, prompt, and when in doubt - do unto others as you would have them do unto you will guide us to the right path - siva

Thank you Vellur for your input. The cruelty we see in the world is due to super powers looking at truth with their self-interest and deciding their actions. They fight proxy wars in other territories They tend to justify their actions by withholding truth. Their actions are instigated by profit motive of the arms industry. Who supplied all the sophisticated weapons in the first place?

Unless we are prepared to face the truth and bridge the trust deficit we will forever be fighting among ourselves, eye for eye, till the whole world goes blind! siva

Truth will set us free to be able to trust others without reservations. When people have their own personal agenda in mind it sours the possibility of building a lasting relationship based on truth. And yes I believe if you uphold truth everything else will fall in its rightful place. Thought-provoking.

Great article, Siva. At senior levels a considerable amount of mistrust and suspicion is deliberately created by a few for their own ends, usually money and power. At lower levels the only difference is scale of size and usually for money and social status.

Agreed Mike. We need unifying leaders able to touch our hearts by leading us to the right path. But, sometimes, I feel they get the wrong message to flex their military muscles. Some do encourage them that way but they are a minority though more vocal!

I am reminded of an incident that happened to me, in fact twice in my career. I try to get almost all involved in a cooperative process for the welfare of the institutions - but my directors felt I was being soft though the employees were very grateful for my efforts and that made it all worth the while!

Those at the helm take others as fools and not trustworthy, but I have seen people are observant and able to read intentions more than led by words. If only those who matter got this basic message - then the trust divide will prove a mirage soon and truth will reign supreme. It is time to wake up the UN and make it effective to tackle world issues! siva

Dear friend ...somehow I seem to snuck in at the end of many comments ...but I don't always know what to write , so in truth , I hesitate ..
Truth to me is such a loaded word ...because it depends on whose truth we are listening to , and thereby act upon .
Pilate once asked Jesus ' What is Truth ' ? ...previously in John 14 v 6 Jesus told those listening ' I am the Way , the Truth and the Life .' ...
I for one of millions believe Him , and therefore ' trust ' His words of truth , and can rest in the wisdom and knowledge that flow from them .
Mine and other's truth can be so easily coloured by our opinions , conditions and circumstances ..and dare I say ...even prejudices .
We all need the prayers that God will heed to walk in integrity , truth and righteousness ....as at times our best intentions and deeds may be lacking in the above , and only with the Lord's help can we stay on the straight and narrow path that leads us onward and upwards .
God bless you dear Siva

Thank you dear Stella - appreciate your analysis and interpretation. What I was alluding to regarding truth is the very basic as there is a trust deficit in the way we conduct ourselves, especially between nations and within nations too. Everyone comes with hidden agenda with the result the common citizens are divided and taken for a ride. This results in humongous atrocities perpetrated on them. There are confusions sown to mislead on almost all issues, be it climate change, WMD, etc with the result hypocrisy reigns. People are led to suspect an inner motive catering to a selfish few.

We come with an inner knowing and - do unto others as you would have them do unto you - is a great guide. But then again our selfishness and hypocrisy reigns supreme when we change tunes when the same situation applies to us. Everyone, everything, is from the Creator and that we forget when artificial divisions are created where there were none.

I believe there are so much of common ground for us to forge ahead, live and leave a much better world. For that the trust deficit has to be overcome as now no one believes in another even among supposedly friendly countries. Don't we have enough of common sense and inner knowing to set issues at rest and create a new beginning? When we look at issues with an earnestness of purpose the rest will take care of themselves. Just get the very basics right, keep them above board - siva

Siva, another great article from your stable. A common thread of thoughts runs through your articles, where you emphasize on trust and truthfulness, traits which need patience and foregoing of ego and greed. However, even if we all start with some little steps towards respecting each other, and shedding ego, greed and selfishness, many of the problems in this world will go away.

Thanks Ptrikha. Live and let live should be our credo - now powerful leaders have to flex their their muscles and are misled by few who shout the loudest. However real wisdom lies in finding mutual ground. I quote from Jefferey Sachs from his recent post. That is just what I he been stating all along.

"Tonight President Obama will address the American public and explain his decision to expand the ongoing Middle East war with more US bombings in Iraq and Syria. The decision to expand the US military campaign comes amidst high public emotions stirred by two gruesome beheadings. Yet Obama is leading us into a prolonged trap; the fight against ISIS (the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIL) is a fight that the region itself should lead.

It is also a fight that should be waged more through politics and economic development than bombs. The United Nations can and should provide the framework for an effective response, not the US. Yet again, as with George W. Bush, Obama will needlessly set the US up as the leader of a crusade against Islam.

We should understand from the start (as painful as it is true) that the US had a major hand in creating the new ISIS monster. The US funded the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan in the 1980s, which then morphed into al-Qaeda. Then the US destabilized Iraq from 1990 onward and Syria from the mid-2000s, in effect giving al-Qaeda and its affiliates a new stronghold. (As Assad moved closer to Iran, the US and Saudi Arabia took up the effort to topple him.) ISIS broke away from al-Qaeda, and then captured the weaponry that the US had supplied to the Iraqi army. Now, President Obama is getting us still deeper into this never-ending battle with monsters stoked by our own ill-advised policies"

It is said by a highly respected commentator and that reflects wisdom to me. I have been stating this all along. Ego, greed and selfishness divide us everywhere - be it countries, families, couples and siblings. Without ego,we are inter-connected with everyone - siva

So happy to see you again dear Subra. Whatever our beliefs are truth is inalienable and common to us all. To maintain world peace we have United Nations where all major powers have important roles to play but it is sidelined preferring unilateral actions - so it has become a toothless tiger. If only we respected its resolutions in writing and spirit our world will be different. Because of the way the big powers are trying to bring one another down, some are emboldened to run amok and terrorize even their own. Maybe, we need a much bigger catastrophe to befall us before we see reason for the majority to act as one - God forbid! No one wants to have these atrocities perpetrated on a daily basis but they are divided by a cunning few. Through modern technology we should assert for peace to reign with a take enough is enough; it is time. Why should the real world be dictated by few vested interests? siva
