This year It has been an extremely long, cold, and snowy winter and has left many, myself included, longing for Spring. Whether through memory or visualization, Spring comes to life in this poem long before it arrives.

Waiting for Spring

the park is quiet,

Longing.....

of lush greens,
dense flowering
shrubs and trees
to condition the air
in fragrant breezes
and lasting memories
yearning to bloom.

There in the distance

There in the distance
a white embankment
blocks early Spring
a chill wind blows
wayward frozen leaves
into a commotion
near an empty swing set
coldly clad in rhythmic sway
childless on this
icy February morn.

Quiet Longing

In the field geese stop to gaze
as robins dance nervously
on barren earth, listening
in the distance-crying wind;
…....time stops here
solitude barren brown
awaits Spring's march
a grand start and end
to this quiet longing
though now, no longer alone.

Spring would be nice Maria, but the weather here in Colorado Springs is crazy. Right noe they are predicting rain for tomorrow from 9 AM to 4 PM and then snow from 4 or 5 PM to 3 AM Saturday morning with an accumulation of 5 to 8 inches. Go figure :-))

Lovely poem and images, Maria. Other species too will be longing for spring and wondering what is going on. They are more exposed to the vagaries of nature though more able to weather them - siva
