War No More

A sonnet that raises the question of what would happen if no one was willing to participate in war.

War No More

What if there was a war and no one came?
what would the commentators talk about?
And those vendors who profit from the same
Whatever would they do when they're shut out?

What of the perpetrators of the thing?
Who from their ivory towers keep the score
Control subjects like puppets on a string
What if they never could do war no more?

Oh, maybe they could have themselves a duel
Those fearless warriors never had to fight
I hope you will not think of me as cruel
When I confess I might enjoy the sight.

No winners, losers, bearers of the blame
If there should be a war and no one came.

Good afternoon, Ron. I think the mental picture of a dual between the primary proponents of a war is an interesting concept. Those who know me here are aware of my poet's envy, so I'll let you know as well. :) Nicely done on a topic that needs more exploration and perhaps a different form, like poetry, to call for thinking about ending this age old human self-defeating behavior. ~Marilyn

In a perfect world people would be free to say they are not going to fight, they are not going to war, let those who are the leaders go into battle like they use to and see if wars still happen.

I too would love to live in a world with no war. Read my poem:
Our Beautiful world!
I am just making a small statement about how I would love our world to be.
