This is the way I create my designs. I give love and nature is my teacher.

What does it take to make an original handmade item?

I get asked this a lot. What makes it original?
Well for original handmade items and especially, “One of a Kind” it takes imagination design and creation.
As a designer I often will spend a day creating a picture of the item. Normally it’s something that I have seen in nature. I always try to create with nature in mind.
People often ask me why I do that.
I would say it’s because it gives me, happiness and tranquility when I’m producing my work.
I also get discouraged doing the same thing over and over again. For me Nature is always changing and this makes it a wonderful teacher for my art.

Practice and more practice makes it perfect

This not only applies to my art but mostly for my bead work. As a child when I was learning I had to do and re do it over and over again until it was right. This is how one learns anything really. It’s just not art it applies to everything in life. From our first steps to out first words its practice and more practice until we have it.
Also when I do make an item I like to include a small story to go with that item. This help the person understand more about the product they are getting; it also creates a bond to the item before the purchase that item.

One bead at the time all with love

I also with my bead love the free hand type of beading. I don’t use loom for my work its all free hand called Square Stitch. This type of stitch lasts much longer. Normally with a loon your thread with go only once through the bead. With Square Stitch your thread or fire line it goes through it 4 times with each bead. It takes much longer to create. Some items will take up to one week specially the wide ones at 8 hours daily.
I have had some people ask why you bother. It’s so much work!
Yes it is but to me it’s the love of making something unique for someone special.
I may not know that person at the time of making this item but when they do get the item, I want them to feel the love that went into making that item.
I’m a firm believer that is you can not do with love then don’t even bother with it.
I also believe that this love shows in your work.

I have been beading for 57 year now and I also learned that from the women in my family at a very young age. it's a love that has lasted a life time.
