it is a simple math concept.... when in doubt factor out, but in this case it is about writing.

Writing is Also About Deleting

In this case I am going to tell you to write it out. What this means is that if you are not sure it should be there, in your writing, or you have said it before, then "write it out." I find myself repeating things a lot and this is mentioned often when I have people read my work.

The hardest part about writing is deleting and the hardest part of writing is editing. Part of editing is deleting... which is probably why editing is so hard.

To save myself time I follow the rule of "when in doubt"

When In Doubt...

Here are my tips when in doubt.

1) If it can be moved around do this.

2) If you want to keep it, but have doubt, cut and paste it somewhere else, not in the same file.

3) If you are just unsure, whatever you have written is probably not mean to be there anyways, so it is a good time to "write it out"

4) It becomes easier to write it out as you give yourself time. If you are unsure cut it out and save it on another file. This way you are still following the rule, when in doubt write it out.

I was once told by an established author to stop being so precious about my words.

I think editing is the hardest thing to do. I always write my article out, add the pictures or at times, the pictures coem first. This mind you is the easy thing. The next thing I do it edit. I also keep going back to look at the whole page and then edit some more. Good read.
