Where are the Bards?

This is a poem about the importance of writers and how they can effect change.

Where are the Bards?

Where are the bards?
The conscience of the society
The speakers for the unspoken,
The writers of history.

Where are the poets?
The writers of virtue and folly
Shouting for the silent population,
Engaging the Parliament.

Where are the marines?
Armed with pen and paper
Ready to attack the status quo,
Touching the untouchables.

The unsung heroes of the past
With pen have toppled dictators,
Changed the flow of a river called history
We are not only readers,
our weapons are words
fired from our pens and pencils.

Insightful message, Kenneth. Poets have inspired history positively. We need to speak out to set right the many wrongs in society - siva
