Publishing Content Online: What to Look for and What are Your Options

Currently, there are many choices that are available for people to write online and earn money. First, writers can setup their own website and/or blog. For some, starting and maintaining a website may be too daunting a task. However, blogging is something that many people are capable of doing. Obviously the level of success can vary dramatically from blogger to blogger and from blog to blog. The two most popular blogging platforms are Google's Blogger (blogspot) and its rival Wordpress. There are a number of differences between the two,

Creating and maintaining blogs is not free of challenges. Sometimes when writers create their own blogs, it is often difficult to gain traction with a steady stream of viewers. Additionally, bloggers may face a high earnings threshold from their advertiser before they gain access to their money. Such is the case with bloggers who use Google's adsense program, which requires bloggers to earn a minimum of $100.00 in adsense revenue before they can request their earnings. Therefore, for some writers, it is worth giving some consideration to article publishing websites to earn money for producing online content. There are a number of different sites that specialize in providing this type of opportunity. Each of these sites can be somewhat unique in their Terms of Service (TOS) and in their overall functionality. Always perform your due diligence before signing up and using any of these sorts of sites.

Here are some of the kinds of differences that writers may see among different content producing websites:

Type of content the site allows to be published

Length of content that the site is allows to be published

Quality of content the site allows to be published

Ease of use in utilizing the site publishing platform

How the site pays its writers.

How often the site pays its writers

How transparent is the site when it comes to transparency of revenue

Minimum earnings threshold to cash out

Here are some of the more commonly known websites that that provide an online publishing platform for writers:

Great info, Han... For myself, I have settled down to writing only what I feel like when I feel like doing it.... The money has come to matter far less than it once did.
Nice to see/hear/read from you again!

Although your information is good, I think it is unfair to praise a different site in the pages of Wikinut. It's not cricket, may I say?

GV, everyone that writes for Wikinut does it for one of two reasons and in some cases both reasons. Some people write simply because they enjoy writing. Others write for Wikinut in the hope of getting paid for what they write. Still other write because they enjoy writing and hope to get paid for what they write. We all freelance it here. None of us are paid Wikinut staff writers, so none of us violate an oath of loyalty if we praise another writing site in these pages. Han's was doing his fellow writers a great service by posting that information here and he should be praised for doing it and not criticized for doing it. Personally I like the way ExpertPages is set up.

I came to this article looking for more pros and cons about writing sites other than Wikinut. And I came to WIkinut to do that because I write here, and because I have seen a lot of honest feedback about other writing sites here. There's just an abundance of information. Thank you for your help in my research.

Yahoo Contributor Network (Y!CN) closes on July 31, 2014. Poof. Gone. Contributors' published articles will be removed from the Internet by the middle of August. It was a good site for writers to publish while it lasted, although, toward the end, many submissions were rejected for publication for "politically incorrect" content.
