Why So Precious?

Why things considered precious, dear, sweet, etc, are precious, dear, sweet, etc? Why is death dreaded?

Why So Precious?

Life is so lovely and precious,
for it is so fleeting and brief;
Songs are sweet and melodious,
for they sing of life’s joy and grief.

Loved ones are so dear and cherished,
for they won’t be always around.
Happiness is valued and nourished,
for adversity threatens to hound.

Warm days are so lovingly raved,
for winter is not far away.
Love is so passionately craved,
for being lovelorn is being in dismay.

Death is so feared and so full of dread,
for it’s the end of all roads one planned to tread.

i believe we appreciate because we can, in the same way that we hate. i love ice cream not because i know that it will melt away, but because i simply love it. my two cents' worth:)

Life, love, loved ones, joy, grief and death --these are not at all comparable to an ice cream, which is a food item. Fear of losing a precious thing that you possess makes that thing all the more precious to you. Thanks for your comment anyway. Aziz Haq
