Why can I not choose Love?

The delimma of a crown prince who falls in love with a commoner, whom he cannot be with due to traditional dictating the class of people he can marry due to his title and obligations as a Prince.

Duty or Love

How does do I walk away from my one true love, someone I have waited so long to meet, a love I have been craving for all my life
How and why should I choose duty /obligations over my heart, can my crown not wait or understand and let me live?

I have met the person of my dreams, my soul mate, the one who pulls my heart strings, my angel who has stood by my side all the time, supporting me and making me believe that I can be the hero I have always wanted to be
I cannot turn away from us, that will be like me turning away from myself, deep down I know we love each other, our hearts beat as one

I do not care about class, race, history, hierarchies, I never felt love until I met her
Her smiles, the glimmer in her eyes, our plans for the future, she was not born into royalty but she is my Princess
Why do I have to her up?

Why do I have to marry someone, my position requires me to marry?
I do not want to live like this, settling down with someone I do not know , love or want to be with
I do not want to live with the burden of loving and losing, secret emotions and longing for another,
Am I strong and brave enough to not “walk away” ?

Why do people not understand that we cannot choose the families we are born into but can choose the path, we trod in life
let our personalities, deeds, actions, experiences, achievements, desires define us and not titles we may have or not inherited

Can I not have them both - Duty and Love ?

Ohh, Hazel, you must be a lovely person, thumbs up to you.

This reflects real life situations in some parts of the world and in the end, duty wins as cultural processes and tradition dictate who some of us are allowed to marry from.

An interesting read WOGIAM, but the facts remain that many royalty of both sexes have chosen to marry commoners. In fact a relatively recent article in the Business Insider highlighted 25 of those commoners. Perhaps I will do an article on that aspect of the question of commoners who have married royalty.

One should take personal responsibility and face the consequences. We cannot have the best of both worlds too. Nice post, Wogiam - siva

I agree that we need to take responsibilities, but it is not easy.

Sometimes depending on where we come from this is not even possible, duty comes before the heart. Things are getting better though.
Thanks for your comments.

Love can adjust and be taught to cling to someone in marriage, but it's sweeter, lovier and rich in challenges when he/she is your choice.

I agree with your opinion as I come from a continent where arranged marriages do suceed. I remember a saying that The Indian man loves the woman he marries, this implies that whoever is choosen for him or he chooses, he loves. Thanks for your comments.
