Wikinut Moderators are not Censors

Those of us who moderate articles for Wikinut see thousands of articles in the course of performing our duties, and they express a wide variety of views. While we may not agree with some of the viewpoints they offer, it is not in our province to censor them.

Wikinut - part of a "free press"

I received a message from a fellow wikinut writer this morning, June 25, 2014, complaining about an article written by Phil Jellerson, one of our writers who pens pages expressing his personal understanding of the Bible and Christianity. Mr. Jellerson submitted an article yesterday titled Sweet and Sour Sodom, a polemic against homosexuality. The messenger asked me how I could let such a hate-filled rant be published on our web site.

I quite agreed with him that Jellerson's article is one long homophobic rant that basically says this country is going to hell because of the homosexual agenda, and it is indeed repugnant in every way. I cannot, however, be a censor, since both I and Wikinut believe in free speech. Mr. Jellerson is free to believe what he believes, and he is equally free to express his hatred in words. In doing so, he exposes himself as the intolerant, judgmental individual that he is.

We must respect and protect free speech, no matter how repugnant it may be.

For sure our job is to check the quality of a post, not to pick only the things we agree with.
If the article was about spreading hate then it could rejected but not if just stating an opinion.

By the way the bible mentions money and having money, as being negatives far more than it mentions homosexuality as being a concern, yet I have not seen many Christians take vows of poverty, have you?

Homosexual behaviors are a direct psychological response to the stoic and guilt ridden stance towards opposite genders among Christian fundamentalists. Just a few days ago, Steve Kinsman published an article “Blaming Rape Victims for being Raped”, relating the story of right-wing Christian fundamentalists pushing blame and shame on the victim of rape at a Christian college while disregarding the norms of justice. Remember, the biblical laws that condemn Sodomy, also demand severe penalties for rapists, who actually got condoned and supported by the Christian fundamentalists. Also historically, homosexuality had been rampant among the pious Christian clergy, as much as pedophilia is today among devout priests. So, if one is truly afraid of God’s retribution, than the first priority must be to leave the ilk of Christian fundamentalists. Cheers

If push comes to shove Steve ...I believe the Muslims and other faiths are just as stoic in their judgement against homosexual behaviour ....
All of us will be accountable one day to God for all our actions , so I pray we will all be ready for that day ...and that many will receive forgiveness for whatever the sin may be ..
God bless you

Steve where does it say that homosexuality is not a sin? When you find out let me know and where you found it.

That is indeed true Stella Mitchell... Nevertheless, I am no more a Muslim than what Steve Kinsman is a Christian... Cheers

Thanks Steve for the highlight. It is tough for moderators for sure starting with approving articles to awarding "stars". The problem is we are human with inherent sexual preferences that are swept under the carpet especially in conservative societies. Most of the deviant acts by the elite do not see the light of the day. Like all other injustices in the past the browbeaten are taking up the cudgels to get even. I will not judge another unless he means harm to my existence. Live and let live is the best policy anytime, anywhere - siva

Free speech, opinion, I am all for that, as long as the language is not offensive.

I know that my own opinions might seem way out there at times too, but if we don't place our opinions on the table there will be far less available for others to chew over.

Indeed, we can have people publish their views, whether most of the people agree with them or not.

As a conservative, and a Christian it is good to know that there are good folks like you who moderate our pages. As far as what is and what is not a sin I cannot judge and have and love my gay friends...Not that way...Just joking. Thanks for all you do Steve.

I am overjoyed that there are at least some conservative Christians out there who do not judge and who accept gays as they are. Thanks for commenting Utah Jay. I appreciate it.

I know that there was something inside me from the very beginning that turned my attentions to the ladies, just as there is something inside all of us. We cannot help who we love, but love them we must.

I appreciate that openness and fairness. Lately some of my proposed contributions on Yahoo were summarily rejected without cause (and mysteriously published later when resubmitted). If one is a writer of any serious conviction, that type of censorship (even the haphazard kind) sends a chilling response. Glad for that.

Excellent article. I can vouch for this because my thought process is somewhat different from yours, Steve, yet you are able to publish my articles without the hack job. Great. Keep up the good work.
