Wikinut?

My little emotional/rational gush about Wikinut - how I ended up joining, the things I like about it, the financial side and what it could potentially bring to my life.

Wikinut?

I found out about Wikinut via Facebook. The creator of a Facebook group - "Sometimes B sharp, never B flat, always B natural. Join if you get it :)", which I thought was quite clever really - mass-invited all of its members to Wikinut with a Facebook message. The idea of writing anything I wanted, publishing it online and earning royalties appealed immediately (as both money and inspiration to write are highly desirable to me at the moment). I did think it sounded faintly like a scam initially and was somewhat dubious, but joined anyway.

Having all my writing in the one place, neatly published and easily accessible to both myself and my readers is fantastic. The tasks keep me motivated, and the nutpoints are quite a nice idea - even though they're pointless (LOL, unintentional oxymoron), there is a sense of accomplishment every time I'm awarded more. The online community of writers is lovely, and it's so wonderful to receive/give positive feedback from/to people, to follow and be followed, and to just share writing in general.

As for the royalties, well I think I've almost made 0.02 pounds (ha, yay me). I have no idea if I'll ever make a substantial amount from Wikinut, or if I'll even receive it when I'm told I've made it. Who knows, perhaps I will, but to be honest I don't really care. It's about the writing, not the money. So I'll just keep publishing pages and see where it goes.

It is just amazing to be avidly writing again; it brings me such inexplicable contentment. I only wish I could write for a living... hmm, perhaps this might be the first stepping stone.

So thank you Wikinut, you're a darling. :)

I'm quite a bizarre teenager. Intellect and eccentricity enthrall me. I am torn between science and literature, unsure which I wish my future to rest with.

Writing is my constant, and ensures my sanity (or perhaps lack thereof).

A lot of people join Wikinut to earn some extra income, but it is important to remember that if you want to write for money then you need to write with a commercial mind and you need to work hard at ensuring you have readers.

Many people also join for the pleasure of writing and to share their writing with a community. Those people may also end up earning some money, and if they do then it should be considered a bonus.

Here at Wikinut we've tried hard to develop a site that will please BOTH types of authors. And we're always keen to hear suggestions and feedback too. Thanks for taking the time to write.

Oh, and yes ... we DO pay every penny we owe authors. We pay out every month and we've never missed a single payment yet. So if your writing proves popular then you will get your money.

Thanks,
Sam.

That is relieving to hear :) thanks for taking the time to comment on my page. I think this site does a brilliant job of appealing to both the commercial and the not-for-profit writers. I wonder though, how do you, the site creators/maintainers, make a profit? From advertising?
Keep up the excellent work :)

I'm the one who invited you; nice to see you've found your way around the place :)
I love it! Not for the money, I'm not interested in that particularly, but just the fact that you can get people to read the things you've written, and get decent feedback on your pieces as well!
Good luck :)

Ohh, you were the creator of that group? ;) Well ta, this site is wonderful and I am truly loving it. Agreed, it's the sharing of writing which makes it worthwhile rather than the profit. Thanks, and you too (not that you need it though). :)

Nice to meet you here and hope you'll keep writing. I've been writing a while on other sites and two blogs and recently found wikinut too, trying to learn my way around.
