It is very unfortunate to see that the abandoned newborns are increasing in the Society day by day! It is an important issue to ponder on that, what happened with the maternal instinct of today’s women. Lust and Social pressures in their lives have pushed their ethics to a back seat?

This poem is an attempt to highlight the burning issue.

Salutations To The Angels On The Earth!

Abandoned New born babies are on an increase now a days.

My heartfelt thanks and honest Salutations to all the people involved in saving these innocent lives and offer them a new opportunity.

They are the God Sent Angels with a special job at their hands!

Wrapped Humanity In The Rags!

While returning from my morning walk’

I saw a gathering near a bush to my shock.

They say curiosity kills a cat,

In spite of that, I wanted to know what was that.

When I peeped curiously to my dismay I found,

A cute baby, abandoned on the ground.

Wrapped in a dirty rag

Along with some trash in a plastic bag

The fresh crusts of blood on its chin

Were narrating that it was a new born one,

At the base of the bush it was thrown in the dirt

I had my doubts if it was safe and still unhurt?

My palpitating heart got appalled with the scene

Wondering, how any mother can be so mean?

While I facing this mental turbulence

There came a rescue team with an ambulance

The crew picked up the baby with an utmost care

I felt happy as if it was the end of my night mare

Had the sigh of relief when they left the place

With the baby as if they were participating in a race.

They were the Angels sent by the God

From his divine and heavenly abode

They have accomplished a noble task

Without having any question to ask.

While walking towards my home

I was pondering about the baby’s genome

My mind was full of questions about the cruel mother

How could she leave the new born like this in such chilly cool weather?

Where has her motherhood gone?

When leaving the helpless nascent all alone?

I entered my place with a confused mind

And was pleasantly surprised to see my find

That a Group of crows were hopping on my lawn

As if they were dancing to welcome the Dawn

Middle of the flock there was a mother crow

Teaching the young one how to grow

Young one was getting life’s first teaching

The Mother was constantly cawing to show her authority of preaching

She was desperate to make the young one a Worldly wise

To lead a life which is not only comfortable but also nice?

I was highly impressed with scene

Felt crows are better than human beings who are so mean

It is not because the crow was a good mother

But because she was raising the baby of some one who definitely was an “other”

The young one was not a baby crow out of her mate,

It was a young Cuckoo for whom she was becoming so desperate.

The crow clan has been rearing the cuckoos for so many eras now

Only the God can answer this question why they have been doing this and how?

They Are Making Us Shameful With Their Noble Act!

The Cuckoo does lay its eggs in the nests of the Crow so that they will be hatched and the young ones are taken care of by the Mother Crow. While doing so, many a times the Cuckoo is chased badly by the Crow in a protest.

In spite of having doubts the Crow hatches those Cuckoo eggs and bring up the young ones to wean them into new World! It is the maternal instinct that works here which unfortunately is becoming scarce in today’s Human beings!

The pictures used in the poem are taken from Google Search. I convey my sincere Thanks to them.

You are right dear friend! How a mother can forget this and throw away her flesh and blood with life in a dust bin, is beyond my understanding! Thanks for responding!

I share your anguish, dear Rao. They say it has become a dog-eat-dog world now, but animals have not changed in their instincts towards their offspring. I don't think we have set a bad example for our younger generation , but some among them just do not have time for life as we know it! siva

Its all about we people have lost our humanity...Abandon a baby is a best suited example of lost humanity.
How one can be so cruel...
I strongly believe that abortion is much better than leaving a child.......
Anyways your poetry is too good.
