What started me off on this idea was the period in my life that I become a self employed housewife. By self employed I mean, I started my own leather-work business in a garage of a rented property in Durban- South Africa
I had so many photos of my leather-work, and the trade shows I held during a period between 1975 – 1985 I thought why not write my story as fiction?

The Diary of a Foreigner

Dear Diary
1974 – Durban – South Africa
Book Blurb – story overview that include the first chapter, followed by twelve chapters so far, they are published on Hubpages, so I will not repeat my story here. So far I did not feel that most of the comment from members on hub pages knew it was my own story, and that was the idea.
I changed the names of all the people in my memoirs, so to speak, and instead just traveled down memory lane back to 1974 when I first arrived as a seaman’s wife with two small children in South Africa - Durban

To be financially independent

After my experience of living in Australia for four years, where my son was born, and our return back to Holland, then living with my in-laws- it became my dream to be a financially independent housewife.
I had no idea how I was going to achieve that. I was left alone with two little toddlers in a strange country while my husband was at sea for at least 8 weeks, and that first day of being alone my prayers were answered. Not that I knew that at the time. As I was strolling past the many colourful shops on Durban’s sea front boulevard, I spotted the most beautiful handbag in a shop window.

The voices in my head

“Go inside and ask if they know how to make handbags from real leather.” the voice in my head said.
I have animated that first day as if readers are with me, and can feel what my emotions were, when I saw this handbag.

The start of being a self employed housewife

If readers want to experience my story through reading the

tooling leather

In my first chapter I write about the signs that I saw for the first time in my life that said: Whites only. I was going through some kind of culture shock, especially when my children wanted to play on the swings and slides at a public park. My children were allowed to play, but not Indian and black kids? The pure unjustness of the apartheid law of which I never knew before immigrating, made me feel lonelier than ever.
During the first weeks we lived in a furnished apartment, but I had promised my husband that I would look for more suitable rented accommodation before he came back from his first trip.
All I wanted to do was visit a saddler’s shop I had passed a few times during our walks to the beachfront, asking how to go about leather work.

Durban – Malvern 1974 - 1975

I held my first private leather-work exhibition in my garage. The videos I have included in this post were about the kind of craftsmanship I did during those ten years between 1974 and 1985.
I have written extensively about the times that I lived in Durban as the wife of a seaman.
We lived in Durban for about one and a half years.
During that period a lot happened that has shaped my life to be what I am today. Topics like Where do Authors get their material from? And how a person who is a Dyslexic and therefore would do anything to avoid writing would end up as a published author.

Those years told me that by following one’s heart, every life skill we learn over the years will come in handy.

The only problem is publishers don't encourage authors to publish online. They think the readership will shrink.
Your book and work sounds interesting..

The book that I've published chapter for chapter: the self employed housewife will only ever become an ebook. My other novels were never published in this manner.

Sunny the best thing is to read a lot of novels and learn from that. You must just start writing no matter if it might not be the chapter you start with. Just write and before you know it it will happen. I never start with chapter one...Unless I've written several chapters already. I hope that helps.
