Writing is a skill set that requires a focused mindset. Sharing a message and inspiring others to be their best versions calls for impactful writing that packs a punch. Are you embracing the three Cs?

POW! Oops - missed!

Have you ever read a blog post, an article, or even a book and it’s fallen... flat? You are left wondering, where’s the impact? Where’s the PUNCH? Have you ever written your own and wondered if YOU are having an impact? For many of us, we write to share, to inspire, and yes, to have an impact. In this post, I’d like to share with you the three C Words (the 3Cs) I embrace when writing to deliver my message with connection (no, that is not one of the 3Cs) and clarity (also not one of the 3Cs).

I find that many of the entrepreneurs, and even writers, that I speak to, struggle when it comes to structure and to planning and creating a piece of writing in an efficient timeframe. For many, rather than seeking out a strategy for efficiency or connecting with someone that can guide them, they choose to stay in their old strategy and simply push through the pain of the experience, or worse still, they just choose to avoid it and not write at all.

There are so many entrepreneurs, coaches, wellness experts, storytellers, people, with messages that the world needs and is waiting for and I find that what really gets in the way is their resistance to one, two, or even all of the 3Cs. By embracing these three simple C words, the next steps become crystal clear (nope, not those C words either) and you can deliver your message void of doubt and fear of judgement.

Are you ready?

The 3Cs are Certainty, Curiosity, and Consistency. There are so many other C words that can be used in this context:

* Creativity
* Clarity
* Connection
* Confidence
* Creation
* C…

And I’m sure you can think of some more. So let’s unpack why I feel that Certainty, Curiosity, and Consistency are the 3Cs that will assist you to write an impactful message that delivers a punch.

CERTAINTY

Certainty is not about being right or about knowing without question what will happen next. Certainty is about knowing that you can handle anything that comes your way. It is about being prepared and benchmarking your outcome without attachment and knowing that if it doesn't go as planned, you will be fine.

Writing can feel uncertain if we don’t know the next step or where we are going. You can bring certainty to your writing with a few simple considerations and changes to your current strategy:

1. Know why you are writing, the message you are delivering, and who will read it
2. Have a structure and follow the structure. I’m following a structure to write this article!
3. If you don’t have a structure or you don’t know your message, get a mentor!

On point three, it is so important to know where we are at and to embrace our skills as well as recognise our gaps. You do not have to be an expert in everything and that includes writing. Writing is a process and a mentor can help you navigate this.

CURIOSITY

Curiosity is about opening your mind to possibilities. Speak to any passionate and dedicated writer and you will discover that they have in innate and deep curiosity that goes beyond the ‘normal’. Writers research everything and we ask ODD questions. Do we care if we are judged for it? Absolutely not, because we are curious about people, objects, words, experiences, etc. Curiosity is the playground of a writer’s mind.

So if you want to write with impact and share your message, utilise the strategy of a writer and become unapologetically curious.

What will you need to ‘give-up’, let go off, or release, to embrace curiosity? It may be:

* Judgement
* Fear
* Expectations
* Assumptions
* Beliefs
* Resistance
* Righteousness

I wonder if you are starting to realise that these 3Cs are not just about writing?

CONSISTENCY

Even the word 'consistency' causes some to shudder, revolt, or hide. I understand. I was once, one of these people. And what I’ve found is that you will achieve more in a small amount of time consistently allocated than you will if you say, “I’ll do it when I have time.” Because the truth is, you’ll never magically ‘have’ time.

You WILL achieve more in 10 minutes a day of consistent focus than you will achieve while waiting for time to suddenly appear. When was the last time you found yourself with nothing to do? And when was the last time you thought, "Wow, I now have time, I’ll work on that thing I said I’ll do when I have time"?

I have been writing a book in 10 minutes a day. For 10 minutes, and only 10 minutes, I focus 100% on that one book. I do not even think about it outside of the 10 minutes. With this CONSISTENT focus of only 10 minutes a day, I’ve followed a proven structure, planned my book, planned my marketing, know my purpose, and have written 9891 words in 34 days. That’s a total of only 5 hours and 40 minutes work and is 9891 words more than those that are still waiting to find the time.

A Final Word

The 3Cs are not only imperative for writing, they are fantastic elements to consider in life in general. When we bring certainty, curiosity, and consistency to our writing, we deliver our message with strength, integrity, and impact - it packs a punch!

The 3Cs is an epic starting point. For those of you that have a structure and understand the flow of writing and delivering a message, I trust you already see how you are embracing these 3Cs. A structure brings certainty, a passion to deliver your message promotes curiosity, and consistency brings results.

If you are still questioning if any of the 3Cs is relevant or you are unsure how to apply them and you want to improve the impact of your writing, the recommendation is to connect with a mentor and work together to develop your skills. Embrace the not knowing for that is the only place from which you can grow.
