A poem about getting up to early for a to early meeting and having your mind wonder because you still haven't gotten your wits about you yet.

stealing candy

the alarm goes off
it's 5:15 a.m.
God in Heaven
it's too early
but I have to get around
and get ready for work
I have a 7 a.m. conference call
with my colleagues in Switzerland
it is strange to think
it is morning here
but it is the afternoon over there
morning traffic should be no problem this early
when I get to work
it will still be dark
the sun will not have even started
lighting up the horizon
I keep thinking about this show
I watched last night on Netflix
it was called
On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace
the film was by known photographer
Michael O'Neill
one of the yogi was talking about people
and what drives them
he said
"it is the longing for love
and connection
the meaning of life
is to find out who you are
and to accept impermanence
search within
search within
not without"
even now
I keep thinking about his words
and about the candy bowl
in the conference room at work
since I will be there so early
I can steal some candy
for breakfast
