vagabond girl

This poem was inspired by a little homeless girl I observed on the streets digging through garbage.

Vagabond girl.

She walked bare footed,
through the streets,
her small body shivered,
as she longed for heat.
She passed a fancy place,
where fancy people ate,
and longed for the scraps,
they left on their plate.
This poor lonely being
was lost and alone
she often wondered
where was her home.
Her tears were all dried up
though she wanted to cry,
She thought death was better
and it's no wonder why.
And now this wandering girl
all tattered and alone,
laid her head down
on the ground oh so cold.
Tired from her journey
to nowhere she slept,
until the unforgiving morning
had crept.
She woke with the sun
as her hunger rumbled.
A stranger walked by
and upon her he stumbled
She waited for profanity
to expel from his lips.
But he asked if she hungered,
to her astonished bliss.
