welcome to the party

A poem about watching a little TV and enjoying a beer after spending a worthless evening at a party.

welcom to the party

another carbon copy day
as I fumble
for the right words to say
James Bond never has this issue
or that bearded debonair gentleman
who claims to be
the most interesting man in the world
when I think about it
I may be
the least interesting man in the world
or at least on this continent
I always arrive to the party early
because I hate being late
I stand in the corner
melt into the wall
and wonder why
I bothered to show up at all
no one notices when I leave
I do not know
if that is a blessing
or a curse
I drive home alone
arrive to an empty house
open the fridge
take a cold beer out
turn on the TV
collapse into a chair
scroll through the channels
hoping something will catch my interest
but just like the party
nothings really there
I do not want to think
or even contemplate
so I settle for watching Crockett and Tubbs
yell at each other in a room
furnished with nothing more than a metal desk
all the pastel colors
aren’t soothing anybody
except for the desk
which doesn’t yell at anyone
