~The Madman Rising~

I’ve been watching these children. My heart breaks a hundred times as I see them fail at love. They are me, they are just like me and I want to howl out to them, “Be careful where the sun is shining the ice is wearing thin.”

Thirteen weighs to midnight are authors to my name, scales I’ll never be able to play on this brittle bone piano.
While my moon keeps changing places in the sky with the sun there is nowhere left to run.

It’s a sad day when those you love don’t bother to love you back, sadder yet when they tell you they just didn’t remember whether it was raining or winter. Our season of love is fleeting, a fist, a heart, a stone.

There is ink on her hand, left by a boy from school, “Jo Jo came here.” I’m in love with her Mother and see
a sameness and sadness in them. I may have to own it as I write poetry on mother’s thighs.

My daughter came to visit, ripped my morning down smooth, soon after the shadow of midnight. A stranger to sleep at best, I’m still thinking about what she said. Ghosts don’t scare me, they piss me off. A dead man standing, I’ve had enough.

I fell in love because I was lonely, lonely because I had fallen in love. Dreamers and idiots share spaces
with madmen, wild women, and psychopaths. It’s difficult to discern their differences. They blame their afflictions on genius, narcissism, hedonism, pathetic devices of chaos.
